Millefeuille‐like cellular structures of biopolymer blend foams prepared by the foam injection molding technique

Microcellular foams with unique cellular structures were prepared from poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(butylene succinate-co-adipate) (PBSA) blends using a foam injection molding technique core-back operation. PLA PBSA are biopolymers that partially miscible each other. When these blended, several blend morphologies appeared found to be dependent on the ratio. The thermal rheological properties of polymer PLA/PBSA ratios 100/0, 30/70, 50/50, 70/30, 0/100 observed, their investigated. While most showed sea island structures, ratio 50/50 layered structure for two polymers in which continuous phases both elongated along flow direction used molding. By utilizing morphology difference viscosities polymers, millefeuille-like microcellular was created blend. Foams show anisotropic mechanical properties, this study reveals method preparing type.
